To strengthen the analytical capacity of food and water, with the support of the FAO of UN, the Govt. has established the National Food Safety Laboratory in 2009 and started its function in 2012.

IPH started its journey with the Combined Public Health Laboratory in 1952. The Laboratory conducts tests of food and water samples according to the country’s laws and regulations and standards,

Aimed at providing training, technical and coordination support for food safety activities under the DGHS, as well as to liaison with other agencies, the Govt. has established the Food Safety Unit in 2012
